Apologies

I’d like to start by apologizing myself. I am still in my hiatus and I have no idea when it will be possible for me to be more active at dA, answer your kind messages, comment and fav your wonderful art on a daily basis again. I still do all these occasionally – I never delete my inbox, no matter how many deviations there are in store and I always answer every message or note no matter how long it takes – but not as frequent as I would like it to be.

About this piece

The second point I’d like to apologize for, is about this piece. It’s a complete cliché. The concept, the colors, the forest, the cross, the crow, the beautiful lady with vivid red hair. I know, all of you have seen this combination a zillion times before. That’s why it has been sitting in my hard drive for over a month and I hadn’t posted it until now.

Why have I decided to post it now? Well, each one of my works is a little piece of me. In each of my images there is a feeling, an emotion, a dream, a hope, a fear or whatever I was trying to figure out at the time I made it. I am not an artist, I am just a person who can use Photoshop a little bit and is trying to figure out herself with the help of this wonderful tool. This particular image means a lot to me, even it’s a cliché. There is a lot of me in there and even the tiniest detail has a meaning. It depicts the end of an era in my life and how much it has cost to me. So, I would feel betraying myself if I hadn’t this image in my gallery and shared it with you all.

I also know this is not one of my best work but I hope you can still enjoy it. Thank you so much for the lovely support.

Lady is lovely `Elandria exclusive stock for #Dreamers-of-Avalon members [link] . Background was composed by me using about 7 stocks from Photoxpress [link] and Dreamstime [link] (see them all here -> [link]) and hand-painted all over them, in order to merge them properly and fix lightning, shadows and details. Some parts of it like: snow, veil, details on the cross, forest lightning, manacles, etc… were hand-painted by me without reference. Photoshop CS4 Extended, wacon tablet and uncountable hours and layers complete this piece.

Someone may look at this one and tell indeed that it is just another cliché. Someone might tell, as you mentioned in your artist's comment, that it's just another work depicting forest, lady, gothic cross and honesty nothing special.

But I believe that it will mean that someone simply cannot look deeper at this work and feel it. And as for me it's just incomprehensible, because I was completely mesmerised by this one the moment I laid my eyes on it. One can't deny how much emotions you managed to capture in this one.
Personally I see here a long road from sadness, feeling of hopelessness and loneliness, sticking to the past and inability to go further, live and cherish life again. As for me the cross symbolizes here the thing/person/situation that made someone a slave and kept one's thoughts in this cold, lonely place far from joy and peace of mind.

I think that it's so emotional because I think that everyone throughout their lives encounter hardships and distress. At times it's immensely hard to get out of this state of being upset and sorrowful... So here is my interpretation for the chains, symbol of enslavement, keeping us in that state.

Another symbolic things in this one are for sure the light toward which the woman is going and the blindfold.
I also like the setting here... Winter, forest, cold stones, mist, stairs and dark shadows all around... It all makes the atmosphere of this one have an even greater impact on a viewer.
And being a photomanipulator myself I can imagine that it must've been a bit hard to put it all together <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt=";)" title=";) (Wink)"/>

I also like the perspective and the fact that you put the cross in the centre of your picture. Looking at the woman from this perspective makes me sure that she's almost managed to escape from her problems, distress... and although there is still perhaps a long way ahead of her, much forest to wander through, one is sure she's on the way to freedom.
Talking about the last thing, although this work may seems to be gloomy and full of sorrow, for me it's still full of hope. Light, hope, freedom are waiting for the woman!

And this all can be well summarized by the quote you provided us with "The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage".

Beautiful, very symbolic and meaningful. This is how I'd sum up your work.

Thank you for sharing it with us, Dear! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart"/>
